Service Information: Celebration of Life services are Monday, November 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Summerville Funeral Home.

Sandra "Sandie" Rae (Byrd) Hayward Sillers, 78, of Brunswick, MO, died Friday, November 23, 2018 at Brunswick Nursing and Rehab.  Sandie was born August 21, 1940, and was later adopted by Blanche and Orville Byrd of Brunswick, MO.  They preceded her in death.


Sandie was raised in the Brunswick, Keytesville, and Salisbury area.  She married Jerry Rucker Hayward in 1956 and he preceded her in death in 2013.  Three children survive, Tammy Hayward Gibson of Columbia, MO, Shawn Hayward of Tabor, IA, and Chris (Linda) Hayward of Salisbury, MO,  grandchildren Erika (Brett) Jensen of Silex, Anmarie Rahner of Marshall, MO, Adrienne Hayward of Columbia, Valerie Gibson of Burlington Junction, MO, Jace Hayward of Japan, Stephanie (Eric) Gladbach of Marceline, MO, Emily (Duane) Nanneman of Salisbury, MO, Mitchell (McKenzie) Linneman of Ashland, MO, 14

 great grandchildren, dear friends Zach Bowen and Eva Fox.


Sandie will be remembered for her humor and vivacious personality.  She didn't know a stranger.


In 1978 she was the first woman mayor in Holt County, Missouri.  She became the mayor of Craig, MO as a write in candidate.  She graduated from Missouri Valley College, and spent 5 years in Fairbanks Alaska working for the University of Alaska.  She loved to crochet, do crossword puzzles, watch Jeopardy and any and all sports.  She will be missed by many.


Her last few months were spent at the Brunswick Nursing & Rehab Care facility, where she became endeared to all staff and many residents there.  They became part of her extended family.
