Service Information: Services are 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Dalton First Baptist Church with burial with military honors at the Dalton Cemetery.
Contributions: Memorial may be made to the Dalton First Baptist Church or the Dalton Cemetery Association.

Biography:

Donald Hughes, Sr., 90, of Dalton, MO, died Sunday, April 21, 2019 at Brunswick Nursing and Rehab.  Donald was born June 3, 1929 in Dalton, MO the son of Lucellous and Laverber (Blackwell) Hughes.  He married Hune Noun , September 1982 in Columbia, MO.

 

Donald attended the Dalton Vocational School and received and honorary high school diploma.  He was a lifelong farmer and worked for the University of Missouri before retiring.  Donald was the mayor of Dalton from 2007-2018, member of the Dalton Cemetery board for many years, and a deacon for the Dalton First Baptist Church.  He loved going to his pecan grove, hunting, gardening, traveling and most of all being with his family.

 

Donald is survived by his wife Hune of the home, sons Donald Hughes, Jr, Ron (Jessica) Hughes of San Diego, CA, six daughters Barbara Williams of Kansas City, MO, Carolyn Hughes of Marshall, MO, Patricia Howard of Kansas City, MO, Pam Smith of Kansas City, MO, Danye Hughes of Marshall, MO, La Nique Solomon of St. Petersburg, FL, three step daughters Hen Chhoup of Connecticut, Hean Nop of Massachusetts, Heout Chhoup of California, sister Madelyn Payne of Columbia, MO, two sisters-in-law Sue Hughes of Dalton, MO, JoAnna Hughes of Kansas City, MO, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Minnie C. Hughes, daughter Brenda Tatum, brothers Marvin Hughes, Maurice Hughes, Roland Hughes, daughter-in-law Jill Hughes, sister Thelma Tatum, and a grandson.
